Reading Intervention Services
At BookBloom, we know that beginning reading intervention is a meaningful step for families, and it should feel both supportive and hopeful. Our boutique literacy practice offers a thoughtful, personalized experience where each child is seen, known, and guided with care from the very first session.
We provide individualized, research based structured literacy and SLANT Orton Gillingham instruction for students with dyslexia and reading challenges. Most students meet two to three times per week, creating a consistent and supportive rhythm that helps reading skills grow with confidence while nurturing a positive relationship with learning.
Sessions are available in person in Scottsdale, Arizona, and live online nationwide through an interactive virtual classroom experience using Koala Classroom, where students engage in real time, multi-sensory lessons designed to feel just as connected and intentional as in person instruction.

At BookBloom, we believe every child deserves to feel confident, capable, and supported on their reading journey. We empower struggling readers, especially children with dyslexia, through compassionate, individualized structured literacy and SLANT Orton Gillingham instruction rooted in both science and heart. As a boutique literacy practice founded by a special education teacher and reading specialist, BookBloom blends research based intervention with meaningful relationships to help children grow into lifelong readers.
Based in Scottsdale, Arizona and serving students nationwide virtually through Koala Classroom
Hello! My name is Kandace Garrigus, and I am the founder of BookBloom. For more than 20 years, I have worked as a special education teacher supporting children with learning differences, with a deep focus on helping struggling readers thrive. I hold a degree in Special Education and a Master’s in Teaching and Leadership, and I am trained in the SLANT Orton Gillingham approach, an evidence based, structured literacy method designed to support students with dyslexia and other reading challenges.
My journey has been both professional and deeply personal. Alongside supporting students in the classroom, I have walked this path at home with my own 2 children, guiding them through reading challenges and celebrating their growth. These experiences have allowed me to see not only the frustration many struggling readers feel, but also the incredible transformation that happens when children receive the right instruction, encouragement, and support.
BookBloom was created to provide a more personalized and nurturing approach to reading intervention, one that blends research based instruction with meaningful relationships. My goal is not only to strengthen reading skills, but to help children build confidence, discover joy in learning, and grow into lifelong readers.
When I’m not teaching or building BookBloom, you’ll probably find me with a good book in hand, at a local bookstore, or sharing recommendations through my Bookshop.org storefront. I love connecting families with resources that inspire curiosity and confidence.
